10 Cent Superfecta Strategy
Part Wheel Strategy and The Mathematics
In a prior article we provided a Trifecta Part Wheel example using a key horse in the first position and introducing the mathematics for calculating the number of combinations of a Part Wheel wager, Pyramid Style. Click here to read that article. In this article we’re going to explain the mathematics when more than one horse is used in the winning position. And, we’re going to go over the math involved with a similar Superfecta Part Wheel wager.
The 10-cent Superfecta makes it possible for horseplayers with small bankrolls to play the wager, and the smaller increment also means a horseplayer can avoid paying Uncle Sam a portion. When a horseplayer hits a $1 Superfecta that returns over $5,000.00, the Internal Revenue Service takes their 26% right off the top. A superfecta is the same as an exacta or trifecta except that it requires the bettor to correctly predict the first four finishers in order in a given race. Given the abundance of possible combinations, many tracks offer a base wager of just 10 cents for the superfecta.
Below is a copy of the race scenario created in the prior post for an 11-horse field.
Horse | Odds | Thoughts |
---|---|---|
1 | 2-1 | Your top selection, with high marks on Class, Distance, Form, and Pace. |
2 | 5-1 | Up and coming horse, improving with every start, but not quite up to the level of #1 yet. |
4 | 8-1 | Horse with past ability, off for 6-months, and workouts are solid. |
6 | 12-1 | Trainer statistics for this type of race show good percentage of horses hitting the board, but low win%. |
9 | 20-1 | Horse that rarely wins, but manages to finish 3rd from time-to-time at double digit odds. |
11 | 40-1 | Beyer Figs are well below the contenders, but with some improvement maybe good enough to hit the board. |
Upon further reflection, we decide that #2 (with a little improvement) has a shot at winning this race. So, now instead of keying only #1 in the win spot, we decide to include both #1 and #2 in the win spot. We also decide that their are only four horses (1,2,4,6) that are good enough to challenge for the top two spots. Given those assumptions, our new Part Wheel looks like this:
$2 Trifecta, Part Wheel, {1,2} with {1,2,4,6} with {1,2,4,6,9,11}.
This results in 24 combinations. These combinations will not print out on your ticket, but they are implied by the Part-Wheel wager. Below is an example of what your ticket might look like.
So, how did we compute the 24 combinations? If your wager is constructed in a way where you are adding horses to each “leg” of the wager (we refer to that as Pyramid Style) the math is as follows:
Presume a Trifecta Part Wheel wager of: {A} with {B} with {C}.
Where {A} is the number of horses in the 1st position, {B} is the number of horses in the 2nd position, and {C} is the number of horses in the 3rd position.
Total Combinations = A x (B-1) x (C-2)

Here are some examples:
Part Wheel Trifecta Wager | Math:A x (B-1) x (C-2) | Combinations | Cost (Presuming $2 wagers) |
---|---|---|---|
1,2 with 1,2,4,6 with 1,2,4,6,9,11 | 2 x 3 x 4 | 24 | $48 |
1,2 with 1,2,4,6,9,11 with 1,2,4,6,9,11 | 2 x 5 x 4 | 40 | $80 |
1,2 with 1,2,4,6 with 1,2,4,6,8,9,11 | 2 x 3 x 5 | 30 | $60 |
1,2 with 1,2,4 with 1,2,4,6,8,9,11 | 2 x 2 x 5 | 20 | $40 |
Now, before you get too scared off by the total dollars required for some of these wagers, remember this example was based on a $2 wager. Almost all tracks allow a minimum wager on Trifecta of $1, and some as low as 50-cents. So, converting from a $2 to a 50-cent Trifecta would cut the above investments to $12, $20, $15, and $10 respectively.
Superfecta Part-Wheel Math
Superfectas (selecting the top 4 finishers) add another layer of complication to the mathematics, and of course create more combinations. However, nearly all major racetracks now offer a minimum 10-cent Superfecta wager. This can make them an attractive play even for a beginner. The following explain the mathematics involved in computing the number of combinations in a Superfecta Part Wheel (Pyramid Style):
Presume a Superfecta Part Wheel wager of: {A} with {B} with {C} with {D}
Where {A} is the number of horses in the 1st position, {B} is the number of horses in the 2nd position, {C} is the number of horses in the 3rd position, {D} is the number of horses in the 4th position.
Total Combinations = A x (B-1) x (C-2) x (D-3)
*NOTE: As with the Triple mathematics, this presumes you are adding (Pyramid Style) horses to each “leg” of the wager.
Here are some examples (presuming an 11-horse field):
Part Wheel Superfecta Wager | Math:A x (B-1) x (C-2) x (D-3) | Combinations | Cost (Presuming 10-cent wagers) |
---|---|---|---|
1,2 with 1,2,4,6,9,11 with 1,2,4,6,9,11 with 1,2,4,6,9,11 | 2 x 5 x 4 x 3 | 120 | $12.00 |
1,2 with 1,2,4,6 with 1,2,4,6,9,11 with ALL | 2 x 3 x 4 x 8 | 192 | $19.20 |
1,2,4,6 with 1,2,4,6 with 1,2,4,6,9,11 with 1,2,4,6,9,11 | 4 x 3 x 4 x 3 | 144 | $14.40 |
1,2,4,6 with 1,2,4,6 with 1,2,4,6,9,11 with ALL | 4 x 3 x 4 x 8 | 384 | $38.40 |
Each of these wagers tells a different story. In the first two, we are fairly confident that either #1 or #2 will win and we are “spreading out” to various degrees in the “lower legs” of the Superfecta wager. In the 2nd example we are using ALL horses in the 4th position.
The last two examples show confidence that the top two finishers will come from four horses (1,2,4,6) and then we spread out from there. Below is a sample of what your ticket might look like for the final example on the above list.
There are countless ways to construct Superfecta Part Wheel tickets. I highly recommend reading Steve Crist’s Book, Exotic Betting: How to make the Multihorse, Multirace Bets that Win Racing’s Biggest Payoffs for many creative ways to approach this type of wager.

A ‘superfecta’ is a type of bet, mainly used in horse races in the USA, in which the bettor must select the first four finishers in exact order.
Different combinations can be calculated and various superfecta bets then made.
This kind of bet is known as an ‘exotic wager’ and most exotic wagers in horse racing have a $1 minimum. Creating many different combinations and betting on them all can therefore soon rack up the stake amounts and therefore demand a hefty bankroll.
As you can probably guess, superfecta bets are difficult to get right – there are so many combinations you have to cover correctly – but when you do, the rewards are handsome.
Due to the difficulty though, a 10 cent surperfecta was introduced at certain meets, in which the minimum wager was lowered to just 10 cents instead of the full dollar. Wikipedia says: ‘This 10 cent bet is very popular with the fans as it permits a bettor with a small bankroll to cover many combinations and still have a chance for a nice payoff.’
An American horse racing betting expert named Joey Scags has available a product called the 10 Cent Superfecta System. He says this of the 10 cent superfecta bet: ‘[It] makes structuring bets affordable. A bet that would have cost hundreds of dollars on a $1 or $2 ticket will only cost 1/10th as much with the new bet. This opens things up for the everyday bettor to be able to reap the huge upside of superfectas without risking more than they are comfortable with.’
Obviously, a proven method of making successful exotic bets is an intriguing prospect to many a bettor.
Sold under the headline ‘Generate your own profitable horse plays within 24 hours… Even if you’ve never bet superfectas before’, the product is basically a system manual that outlines exactly how to best make 10 cent superfecta bets.
The cost for the 95-page PDF is a £19.95 one-off payment, with a 60-day money-back guarantee through Clickbank.

Joey tells us that though we have never heard of him – ‘I have never been comfortable in the spotlight and have purposely remained “underground” for the better part of my career […] I don’t go from city to city doing “dog and pony shows” so I can sell overpriced, piece-of-crap, blinking-light, “black box” software that supposedly shows you how to bet on the races’ – he’s been a professional gambler for many a year: ‘I’m a player first and foremost. Horse betting is what I love, and betting is what I DO.’
Learning of the superfecta system from an old bettor friend, Joey was reportedly soon making figures like $2800 and $1100 with one superfecta bet after another.
Apparently, the superfecta is ‘the best bet at the track’ and ‘if structured properly, superfectas offer the nicest returns on investment of any bet at the track’.
Celebrating the fact that the newer availability of the 10 cent superfecta bet makes betting superfectas possible for everybody – and not just those who can afford the luxury of a bigger betting bank – Joey has outlined a certain formula in his system manual that demonstrates how to make daily 10 cent superfecta selections.
Without saying too much, he splits the runners with a specific method that allows a few combinations of possible outcomes to be narrowed down, and one of which ultimately ending up as a winning superfecta bet.
Though the manual is long, it is well written and laid out in a very digestible way. There is much detail about superfectas and 10 cent superfectas and there is no doubt that Joey is knowledgeable on the subject.
The main focus of the manual is the 10 cent superfecta bet, but some other exotic bets are covered too, and the six bonus items make for interesting reading as well. Bet structuring is the main thing to learn here, and though experience will be the truest and greatest teacher in this arena, the content of the manual is not a bad foundation.
Only certain races are eligible for making superfecta bets and 10 cent superfecta bets, so you might have to invest time in finding these specific meets. This is heightened by the fact that the system calls upon you to narrow the list of eligible races down even further by finding the ones that adhere to a specific selection requirement.
In Joey’s words: ‘You’re not going to just be betting favourites or long-shots… You will be finding special situations that create value and give you incredible upside.’
There is work to be done here, and not every superfecta bet you make will be a winning one – far from it. However, it’s an interesting and oft-neglected element to betting, and the manual here is worth the modest asking price, even if only for the sake of mere interest.
